Starting something new is a big deal—for children and for parents.
Even when it’s something exciting, new experiences often come with questions, uncertainty, and sometimes anxiety. Children may wonder:
- Where am I going?
- Who will be there?
- What will we do?
- Will I be okay?
- What if I don’t know what to do?
As both a teacher and a parent, I know that uncertainty can make even the most exciting opportunity feel overwhelming. That’s why I created a social story for every family joining Alexis Adapts Adventures.
A social story is a simple, child-friendly way to introduce new experiences before they happen. By reading it together at home, children begin to build a mental picture of what to expect. When they already know the routine, the environment, and what comes next, they often arrive feeling calmer, more confident, and more ready to learn.
This isn’t just a strategy for autistic children. Predictability benefits all children. Whether your child is neurodivergent, neurotypical, shy, energetic, or simply trying something new for the first time, knowing what to expect helps their nervous system feel safe enough to engage.
At Alexis Adapts Adventures, we believe that children learn best when they feel connected, understood, and supported. Preparing for success begins long before the first class—it begins at home with conversations, encouragement, and helping children feel ready.
That’s why I’m making this social story available as a free resource for every family.
I encourage you to read it together a few times before your child’s first class. Talk about the pictures, answer their questions, and remind them that it’s okay to feel excited, nervous, or even both at the same time. Those feelings are completely normal.
Every child deserves to walk into a new experience feeling prepared instead of pressured.

I can’t wait to welcome your family and begin this adventure together.
